Stroof, Friday was a long night!

It finally happened! On Friday night / Saturday morning we had our All-nighter. The aim of the event was to stay up all night (of course) to celebrate 300 years of God's goodness to our church by spending 300 minutes on activities dedicated to Him. A minute for every year, incase you hadn't figured that out.

The activites included dedicating our minds to God through a quiz, dedicating our bodies to God by getting a dance routine together, using our voices in a midnight praise session and the Sing Star showdown and using our acting skills as well.

Here's a few memories from the event.

We kicked off with the now infamous 'animal game' that was made legendary by Frank's monkey impressions ("silky marmite"). This short activity produced more in-jokes then I could ever do justice to here. "Creepy Creepy. Creepy Creepy". etc.




This is Trinity Baptist Church who kindly lent us their building, because our own church was full with our 300th anniversary exhibition.

Thank you Colin, Tim and everybody at Trinity who made this possible!









Everybody brought along a DVD and we democratically voted to watch Jonny English (worst film title in British cinema history says-a-me!), so thanks to Sam for bringing that along. We put it on at about 1.30am, and Ian fell asleep in front of it, ahhh bless!









Our thanks to Lionel Ritchie for providing the theme song to our dance routine. This was one of Sarah's ideas and it was a lot of fun. Thank you Sarah! We stood around in a circle and made up a dance routine one step at a time. Video evidence of it's brilliance will soon be availible on request (to Youth Alpha and F.B.I. members only, natch)






See that picture? That's the bloke out of Keane that is. No doubt he's singing "Everybodies Changing", AGAIN! One of the high points of the night was seeing everybody compete to see who could get the most points on Sting Star Rocks. One of it's low points was sitting through "Everybodies Changing" three times.... mind you the first performance was a crowd pleaser. Sarah judged our various efforts, and I had a go at "Boys are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy - but didn't do to well. Ah well. Calum and Matt R were both very good. Yay them!
The best part of the showdown was hoping that Ian would wake up from his Jonny English-induced slumber to find himself surrounded by strangers singing Queen songs and not know whether he was still dreaming. Saddly he took it all in his stride, it turns out he's quite hard to confuse.










At midnight Simon D and Park_2002 led the little crowd in some very atmospheric worship songs (thank you both for that).

Toast. There's nothng quite like it. We finished off the night by eating breakfast together, having a mass tidy up and chucking Calum's orange cushion about. Lovely. Then we all went home and slept.

Thank you Park_2002 for buying the food and Fliss for cooking it, doing the washing up, cleaning and generally getting on and doing stuff behind the scenes. Thanks also to Malcolm and Keith (yes Keith, ANOTHER thank you!) for your guidance and help. With out you two.....

Broadway Exhibition

If you've walked past the church this week you'll have noticed the MA-HOO-SIVE banner outside.
As part of the churches 300th anniversary celebrations we are running a free exhibition all week looking at the past, present and future of Broadway and our little home town of Le Chesh'!
It's free to get in and there's a good selection of stuff on display for people of all ages, including a great puppet video (all credit to Rueben) and a really cool garden space with a water fall.
The exhibition is called The Broadway experience and it runs all week till 4pm, an evening opening on Wednesday night (7-9pm) and a special opening on Saturday morning.

Tetris baby!

For the last week I've been living in 1991. That year anybody who was anybody got a Gameboy for Christmas and the UK rocked to the sound of Tetris. We had to, Bohemian Rhapsody was number 1 again, what choice did we have? Last Friday I got Tetris DS and my mind has been a mess of falling blocks since then. Even Park_2002 has been playing it by jingo!
All those memories of falling blocks have come flooding back, it's a beautiful thing. And it has a fun touch screen 'slidey' bonus game now too.

explosive dream

i had a very weird dream last night, and i remember it quite well, i have nothing else to do so here goes

i had just been to buy diet coke + mentos, and we went to the school carpark to set them off, we went there, next to the car park was a row of class rooms with huge windows facing onto it, so we were waiting for there school to finish so we wouldnt get caught setting it off in there car park. in these class rooms every student faced the front so all we could see was the back of there heads. .Then one of my friends started shouting "get away, hide" really franticly, the next thing that happens is every single student turns around and looks me straight in the eye, the next thing im hiding behind a crate and the school explodes, but with no flames or anything, just all the rubble and stuff flying towards me. the next thing i remember im sitting in the rubble, dead, but i can still see, i get pulled out and get prounounced dead. then im standing ontop of a skyscraper with other skyscrapers all around in varying hights, i then start fighting batman, while flying and with tiny lightsabers.

and that was my twisted dream.

Imagine the kids in that pictures in black blazers and you'll have a pretty fair mental image of the general shananigans at The Lounge hosted by TGIF at Chesham High School today.

Unfortunately we didn't have the offical MB Twister spinner. So we span a year 7 around and he shouted out random instructions like "right hand blue" (true story). He seemed to like it.

Other high lights included a little crowd around Battlefront 2 on the PS2 and the guy who can play lots of Guns and Roses rifts ("Go on, guess the song" "Sweet Child of mine?" "Correct!") It was like 1989 all over again I tells ya!

Lounge Launch

Stick a black blazer on these chaps and you've got yourself a pretty good idea of what The Lounge at Chesham High School! was like during yesterday lunch time. Donkey Konga fever hit room H5 when TGIF (the new name for the schools Christian Union) launched The Lounge.
So what's The Lounge - a bongo club for the spikey haired amongst you?
Not quite.







The Loung is a place where anyone in the school can come and hang around for a bit. There's plenty of stuff to do, play a bit of Gamecube (yesterday we had SSBM, DK and Nightfire going on at different times), play a bit of PS2 (yesterday we had Sing Star and Burnout Revenge), bring your guitar, play some Jenga, express yourself with some chalk, or just do some chit chatting.








WHERE AND WHEN?
The Lounge is running in H5 every lunch time from Monday (yesterday so you missed that!) to Wednesday.
Then TGIF starts on Friday.
Come along and bring your lunch.

More Congratulations!

Congrats to Martina and Ben who got married today. Both of them used to go to Remix (the fondly remembered Sunday night Broadway Youth event that ran for 13 years). And to Nathan and Kath, who got married in August and were ALSO regular faces at Broadway Youth events. And to Liz and Ben who got married in July (I think we mentioned their wedding here at the time). Guess what! Yep they went to various Broadway Youth events too.

(please note that we make no guarantee that you will meet your future husband or wife at Free* Cafe' or Youth Alpha, but then you never know aye)

Lastly, we would like to congratulate Sarah (Youth Alpha group leader) for being a brides maid more times in one summer then a lot of people manage in their whole lives!

And congratulations to Valerie from the Free* Cafe' team and Graham (her husband who is a church deacon but most importantly ran Broadway's Youth program for years and best of all, he helps tidy up on Free* weeks) who have helped arranged weddings for their sister, daughter and son in about ten months. Crumbs!

Let's Pray ALL WEEK!

Hey did you know that Broadway Baptist Church (in beautiful Chesham) is 300 years old this year?

Well it's not so nrrrrr.

But it sort of is.
Really it's the 300th anniversary of a bunch of baptists (in beautiful Chesham) saying "let's build our own church, just here will do nicely!". The current church is the second building (I think) and originally it was called "Chesham General Baptist Church".

So what's the point of all this history you ask, and what's it got to do with praying all week.....hang on chum, I'm getting there!

Over the next month and a bit there's a lot of stuff going on to mark 300 years of normal people in this church
meeting with God,
worshipping Him,
serving Him
and inviting the rest of the town to get to know Him too.

Not a 'yay, 300 years of us' but a 'yay God', if you will. You get the difference, right?

To kick things off the church is having a week of prayer activites. Offically this starts on Sunday, but we like to think we're a bit ahead of the times in Youth Alpha, so (you might want to sit down of this bit...) we're kicking it off TONIGHT!

Tonight we are going to think about talking to God,
we're going to talk about taking to God,
stroof we're even going to do some talking to God.
If you're idea of 'prayer' is dull and boreing then get yourself along tonight and see how wrong you are!

On Sunday morning Youth Alpha will be focusing on some great practical examples of how to prayer. And of course they'll be the usual merriment and high jinks that you would expect from any of the fine events put on by Broadway Youth.

DETAILS: Youth Alpha is open to anyone from school year 7 to 13 (secondary school).
If you'd like to come but haven't been before please get in touch with us (we're in the phone book or leave a comment here) so we know whoes coming.
Youth Alpha takes place on Friday nights 7.30 - 9.30pm at the church (please come to the back door and ring the bell)

The first free* of the term

all went well, i played my first video game in 5 days, 5 whole days!!! it seemed really quiet though, fbi next week for all who are going, and apart from that, yeh

CONGRATULATINS FISH-FACE!

Weldone to Nish Nash, Iain, Charlotte and Lauren (better known as team Fish-Face) who won an historic and storming victory over team Bubba Cheese last Sunday morning.

The contest in question was the incredibly exciting BIBLE MIND 2006 and the challenges involved ranged from
naming 3 of the 4 actors who played Darth Vader,
(a question that I maintain is totally fair and not as hard as people made out)
a memory and observation skills test based on this bit of the bible,
and writing a caption to make Lydia laugh.

It was all part of Sunday mornings Youth Alpha and if you missed it, darn it you missed out. Ah well, there's another one on Sunday.

Free* back tomorrow!!!

Hey everybody.
Free* Cafe' is back tomorrow and Ming the merciful and I have spent most of the day getting ready for it. Between us, the Lingle and (NEW CHESHAM YOUTH WORKER ALERT!) Jenny, we made some funky-fly new fliers and handed 'em to folks in town, and a good whack of the day was spent filming the first new Free* Cafe' video in 2 months.

The vid' is an introduction to all things Jenny. She works for The Anglican parish churches in Chesham and has just moved to town. You can catch the video at Free* tomorrow, or else follow the link at the side to Broadway Youth TV where it will appear some time in the next few days.

Although I never got the original game, I gladly tip my hat to UK based game developers Travellers Tales for flogging an obscene amount of games of everyone but me and creating a great entry level expirence for young fans.

Is this the worst video game in history?

Well folks the quest for histories most appalling video game begins here.

Use your arrow keys to guide the severed head of a 50's style young boy around a yellow maze gobbling up his weekly quota of Caramels as he goes (see two posts below for more of this important issue). So it's Pac-man. Or Ms Pac-man, I am no sexist! But without the ghosts (i.e. the challlenging and fun elements).
Instead of dodging specters, you guide the slightly disturbing image of the poor decapitated boys bonce around the maze within a time limit. I've read that severed heads are conscious for up to a minute and it seems brave of Tunnock's to commission a video game based on this theory in order to sell their 4 million bars this week. But I guess you have to keep up to date with market trends in this day and age. Sadly the game moves so slowly that I am convinced it is impossible to complete the mazes within the given time limit.

Check it out, have a go, but be careful. If it starts to feel like fun you maybe suffering from an undiagnosed mental health problem. If so please see your GP immediately!

Things to do to relax after your fist day back at school

Had a rough day in your educational establishment of choice?
Stuff those herbal remedies in the swing bin and try one of these ancient relaxation methods suggested by our expert*.

1. Eat your entire weekly quota of Tunnock’s Caramels in one sitting
2. Do a painting of a dog using only things you find in the kitchen cupboards like Marmite and Tip Top.
3. Get the bus to Amersham, take photos of all the public convinces there and build up the website you started yesterday
4. Challenge yourself to a game of mercy
5. Find out who was number 1 in the charts when you were born, Google for their contact details and write to them to let them know how your life has turned out so far. Give their song a rating out of 5 based on how accurately it reflects your life or personality
6. Rub some Deep Heat on an apple and watch to see if anything happens
7. Stand on your head for a bit
8. Try to beat yesterday’s bread eating PB. Come on, you can do it! Go! Go! Go!

Are you doing your bit for Tunnock’s?

You know how it is, you’re supposed to be working but then something that seems far more important forces you to down tools and consider it for some time. Like this for example:

When was the last time you ate a Tunnock’s Caramel?











You know, the caramel wafer bar with the thinnest covering of chocolate scientifically possible and the 1940’s style packaging. When was the last time you ate one of those? How many would you say you eat in a year?

You know how the foil wrapping proudly claims “4’000’000 made and sold each week”. Rueben has figured out that for that to be true every man woman and child in the UK has to eat 4 bars a year. And you know what, I checked, he’s right.


















I haven’t had one in about 5 years. I used to eat them when I was at school so maybe that’s how it works; school pupils eat 6 a year and adults only have to have 2. But that still means I’m 10 down. And that’s without counting my years as an infant. Crumbs, I’ve got some catching up to do. This explains that feeling I sometimes get when I think I’ve forgotten to do something important but can’t remember what.

Learn from my mistake; don’t let yourself become a Caramel victim.
Keep your quota up.

Things to do on your last day of FREEDOM!

School's are back very very soon. Here’s some suggestions for how to spend the remaining hours of the holidays.

1. Write a poem about cheese
2. Watch TV all day and write a log of everything you watch including adverts
3. Draw a picture of your own face, tear it up and rearrange it as you please

8. Kiss your Mum goodbye
9. See what household objects you can balance on your head. Avoid sharp things like knives and massive weights like washing machines
10. Dress up like a popular character from history
11. Take photos of all the public conveniences in Chesham, rate each one out of 5 and post your finding on that information-super-highway thing everyone’s talking about
12. Using an eyebrow pencil or novelty item, spend the day with a moustache. This is especially fun for girls!
13. Start a blog about your adventures in time travel
14. See how much bread you can eat today, make that your Personal Best. Build on it everyday and see if you can’t double your PB by the end of the month. Then do on a diet
15. Give every item in your kitchen cutlery draw it’s own name, then make little name tags for all your new found friends

go karting......hurts

i just back from go karting for my grandads 70th, it was a whole load of fun, but wen so many people keep bumping into your back because your braking to avoid someone else, and the seats are made of plastic, it bruises your back, and mine is killing me right now, owwwwwww the pain

Free* Cafe' and F.B.I. ready to go

Here they are, the dates for the relaunch of Free* Cafe' and F.B.I.

Free* is back on Wednesday 13th September, 3.25ish pm to 5pm. Welcoming year 6 and up.

F.B.I. is back the next week, Wednesday 20th September, times are the same.
You will need a new invitation for F.B.I. but we'll give these out at Free*
