My brain hurts!

Have you played Brain Training on the Nintendo DS? It's a video game for old people and if you give TV's Chris Tarrant money he'll say he likes it.

But that's not saying much, just watch this video for evidence that Chris Tarrant will say anything for money.

Did you hear the song at the end there? "Good old Bertie Bassett, He's Britian's greatest asset". Why ever did they stop using that I wonder? It's pretty catchy!

Anyway, enough Chris - back to this:
We got it on Monday and boy oh boy it is an experience. It’s supposed to make you better at remembering things (my need for this was evident at Youth Alpha on Friday when I forgot my own name TWICE!) but really it’s just brought out the competitive side in Park_2002 and me. Take it from me, she DOES NOT LIKE TO LOOSE ;-)

After three days her estimated ‘Brain Age’ is 24, and I.... apparently I have the brain of a 60 year old.
But get this, on Monday my first brain age score was 41, so not only am I am now officially a bit thick, I have actually got thicker as the week went on. Thanks Nintendo!

10 ways to get lots of attention

Well hello there, here's your belated guide to the heigh lights of what we got up to at Youth Alpha last Friday and a sneaky peek at what's going on tonight. (if you're not in the know, Youht Alpha is one of the regular events for young people at Broadway Baptist Church in Chesham. It meets on Fridays and Sundays at the church and it doth rock, so sayeth I). Last Friday was all about this:

and here it is in French, well why not when you can aye!

That's right, we had a look at the plagues God sent on Egypt. Read the proper, non animated version by clicking here. It's pretty scarry stuff. We learned that the plagues were what my teacher wife might describe as "God's lesson plan to achieve the following three learning objectives for Pharaoh and Israel, a mixed ability class":

1.Yahweh is more powerful than Pharaoh, his magicians and his gods.
2. The Hebrew people that Pharaoh made slaves and butchered do not belong to him. They belong to God
3. There is no one and nothing like Yahweh. He is the one who is really in control

This stuff is massively important because it's just as true now as it was then. For an example of this try taking out Pharaoh's name from the third point and insert the name of a world leader of your choice. If the end result seems unlikey then this bible passage has something to teach you.

Tonight's Youth Alpha looks at how God resuced the Hebrews from Egypt, and that they could not do it for themselves.

Believe it or not they did sing a big ol' power ballad at about this time in Bible history. No really, they honestly did! Read the real thing by clicking here, scroll down to Exodus chapter 15 and see it for yourself.
On a similair theme, watch this classic Free* Cafe' video that looks at how Jesus does the things we cannot do, because we all still need rescuing folks; but none of us are up to the job!

This Sunday morning we're looking at the rules that God gave Israel to live by. This should be pretty interesting if you've been coming to Solid Rock, Free* Cafe or F.B.I. this term where we've been thinking about God's top ten rules for living (often called the Ten Commandments by less hip people then my good self).

Wet Wet Wet

Hello virtual chums. This morning at Broadway Baptist Church we had a great Baptism service. Want to know what baptism is? Then click here to read an excellent explanation from a church in America.
Or watch this video to get a good idea of what baptism isn’t:

This morning Tim & Fiona were the people getting wet. They gave a short talk about their experience of how they gradually came to know God for themselves over several years and how they saw the love of Jesus change and shape their lives.
We had some fantastic music from the All Souls Orchestra, which Tim & Fiona both play in. It was all strings, brass and stuff like that and it was a really incredible thing to experience. Click here to visit their website, where you can find out more about the orchestra and get dates for some gigs in December. If you were there and really enjoyed the music click here to get their latest CD from Amazon.co.uk.

This morning Phil (the Minister at Broadway) talked about taking a step of faith, like Peter the disciple of Jesus in Matthew 14 verses 22 to 36. We’ve posted this before, but watch this great clip fromRob Bell's Nooma DVD series. This clip is from Nooma 8: Dust, which looks at this incredible story from a slightly different angle. It comes highly recommended.

Click back this way soon for details of what's coming up at Broadway Youth.

How nerdy is Mahbejah?

Accroding to some online test - he's this nerdy:
I am nerdier than 14% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!
HA-HAH, not that nerdy at all then! But it also said not that cool either. WHAT?
Click on my score to take the test for yourself and find out how nerdy you are.
But be warned! The questions make the assumption that you are only a real nerd if you are a scientific or mathmatical genious, ala Gill Grissom from C.S.I.

Watch Napolean Dynamtie for a much more realistic picture of Nerd life!

Deliver us!!!!!!

Hey ya blog reader, how you been?
Tonight is the first normal Youth Alpha at Broadway Baptist Church in about a month. So if you've been to any of the recent events ( fire works, the all-nighter, get together with New Town church and the get together with the Boys Brigade) come along tonight to see what a normal Friday looks like.

Now things are back to normal (for a couple of weeks at least) we're continuing our series looking at God's master plan through history, going through the major events of the Bible. Tonight we're looking at how Abraham's family (the Hebrews) went from being promised their own country to being slaves in Egypt and how God set in motion his one man rescue plan - Moses.
Watch this 5 min video clip from the movie The Prince of Egypt to get a feel for what was going on:

And click here to check out Exodus chapter 1 & 2 and get the full story from the bible.

On Sunday morning we'll be looking at how God first told Moses he had a job for him that would change the course of history, how Moses was freaked out and how much he learned about God that day.
Check out this bizarre video of a 1970's comic book and record set for American kids for a some what bizarre version of these events (and then thank God that kids grow up with Veggietales these days):

And here's a bit of veg to take the nasty retro taste away that the previous video left in your mouth (Ming, this ones especially for you):

Click here to read what really happened when Moses met God for the first time. He didn't have an American accent or anything!

You don't have to be a Christian to come along, Youth Alpha is a great place to find out more about who God is and what the Bible has to say to us, so if that interests you or a friend of yours and you're in school year 7 - 11, leave a comment here or get in touch to let us know you when you would like to come along. Click here for our contact details.

Youth Alpha Fridays are 7.30 - 9.30pm at Broadway Baptist Church (come to the back door in the car park)
Sundays are 10.30 - 12pm at the church.

We're going through the top ten rules for living, as written by the authour and designer of all life on earth, all life anywhere in fact.

This one is the first video Mingle has made, good for him huh!

This one is all about nicking stuff. Don't do it kids!

Have a look and leave a comment to let us know what you think.

Thursday is Solid Rock at Chesham Park school, lunch time in room A7 - a great place to eat your lunch, find out a bit about what the bible says and what Christians believe and have some fun too. It's open to anybody at the school, you don't have to be a Christian to come along.

Friday is TGIF at Chesham High school, lunch time in room H4 (I think, should be notes in the registers), as above but at Chesham High. Yay.

Friday night is Youth Alpha at Church, 7.30 - 9.30pm - bible teaching and a whole lotta fun for school years 7 - 11

Sunday morning is Youth Alpha at Church, 10.30 - 12pm, fill your head with bible stuff every week, school years 7 - 11

Sunday night is the Waiting Room, a chance to get a bit of peace and quiet and listen to God, 6.30 - 8pm at Church.

Plenty going on then, so don't miss out.

Offical Broadway Youth Park Race Tuesday

Hey everybody out there, welcome to the OFFICAL BROADWAY YOUTH PARK RACE TUESDAY. Just like the headline says infact.

Tomorrow our good friend, Youth Alpha leader and general Broadway Youth Star, Mr Simon Dwight is heading off to America for a while. In December his band and offical le Chesh' super stars THE PARK RACE are touring North Carolina, how about dem apples huh?

We had our last Youth Alpha Sunday with Simon at the weekend and we're really going to miss him. What's more, I've been listening to last years Park Race album Statues and Portraits a lot in the last week or so, so we've dedicated today to the band. Well why not, gotta use the bandwidth up some how huh!
Here's a picture of them looking quite scary.

And here's one of Simon at the famed Broadway Youth All-nighter last month, singing along to Cold Play at 3 in the morning or some such.:

And here's Simon on the same night, before he shaved:

And here's a very tasteful photo montage of the band performing put to one of their songs. It's great, you should watch it. Go on!
Click at the bottom to add it to your myspace profile and all that.

And just one more thing....

(Ta Luke!)

Right then, I'm off to the park to have a race with some statues and portraits I've stapled to an old pair of skates. Just hope I don't get hit in the head by a flying Mentos.
See you down there!

That was sure some fire works

OK, so this is some random youtube clip and it's not the fire works from Friday night at Chesham United football club. Ah well, Daryl's right though (see below) they sure were some fire works and we had a great Youth Alpha night toboot.

After the fire works we walked back to church and played some class games, well, I thought they were pretty classey.
The mums and dads made us hot chocolate and then did the washing up, YAY THEM! Thank you very much to Donna and Steve and everybody who helped serve and clear up, we really appreciated it.

Then on Saturday night:

We finished off all the 300th anniversary doings by dancing like barns up at Chesham Park school. Congratulations to Abbey, Matt, Nish, Jacob, Toby and Charlotte, you all 'got da moves', or something like that. It was alot of fun, I wish I'd taken a camera.

This morning in Youth Alpha we spent a long time working out Josephs family tree. So long in fact that I'm determined to scan that sucker in and get it on this page. We were thinking about promises, particulalry God's promises to Abramham to make him a great nation. That man had a whole lotta Great grand children!

And finally:
The (in)famous Broadway hut comes down tomorrow.... come back here then for a timely salute!
Till then

Ben
