Well done for mastering the art of the hyper link Random!
I'm sorry to say I have replaced the original link because it contained a naughty word, which is a real shame coz it was only the one swear and was otherwise an interesting debate (about the pro's of sticking micro chips in people, like they already do to dogs). I've replaced it with something that explores the same themes.
Although nobody on this blog is 100% responsible for the content on any sites we link to, we want this page to be open to everybody. I think some parents would quite rightly object to us hosting the original link, so it's gone.
I hope you understand why I've done that and that you don't feel got at or put down, especialy as your posts are always of a random quality I really enjoy. It's an interesting topic (and a bit scary too) you've brought up so I'll leave a seperate comment about it. Cheers D-boy.
Ben
human chipping, huh.... this'll be a long comment!
The subject freaks me out to be honest with you Random man.
In some countries they already have to carry identification with them at all times so I guess it's not such a big jump for them and the pro's might seem more real then the con's. But personaly.... it makes me feel very uncomfortable. I have 3 concerns:
No 1: The July 7th bombing wouldn't have been stopped by people having I.D. cards or microchips under their skin. Anyone trying to get explosives (or snakes) on a plane would already have a passport to get through airport security. A microchip wouldn't stop an adult abusing a child or anyone else for that matter, or stop them using drugs. I think terrorism, child abuse and drugs are the things people in the UK are most affraid of, and I can't see how cards or chips would prevent any of them.
No 2: It's historical fact that a lot of people in power can be very very dodgy, and not show a lot of love for the people they lead. The Nazi's used tax payers money to kill jewish Germans, the Soviet Union used the peoples resources to kill East european peasants, Pol Pot killed millions of Cambodians, the Turks had the Armenians, etc. Millions and millions of people murdered and all by the people who were supposed to lead them, and mostly their own taxes paid for it. And genocide like that isn't just in the history books, it was going on in Rwanda and Bosnia whilst I was doing my GCSE's, playing Street Fighter 2 and listening to brit pop in the 90's. Genocide is a crime in the UK, but laws change. No one should say "this will never happen here" because one definite lesson from history is "bad stuff just keeps happening". It's one of the reasons I am convinced that God is real and the Bible is trustworthy, but that's a whole other debate.
Anyway, here's my point: we should never trust our leaders to act in our interests 100% of the time. That doesn't mean we should be paranoid, give in to conspiracy theories or not bother voting. It does mean we should hold on to our rights and freedoms as much as we can. They were hard won and they would be easy to loose and hard to win back.
No' 3: That bit from Revealations (see the new link) is very interesting. After all, the Bible says there is a devil, that he used to be an angel in heaven but that he was jealous of God and wanted to be like him, and that's where a war between them started. A bit like Gordon Brown and Tony Blair :-) Seriously though, one of the things people believe about the devil is that he is everywhere, like God is. But that's rubbish. It's not in the Bible. Only God is everywhere all the time. So don't ever believe that good and evil are equals or two sides of the same coin...I digress.....
It makes sense to me that the devil would like to have his own version of being everywhere and knowing everything (what Christians call omipressence). So I think the devil would want to get everybody in the world chiped up so he could kid himself he had ultimate control. So I think he must be very much in favour of human chipping.
I am not saying that the companys who develop this technology and the politicians who want to see it rolled out in their countries are working with the devil, or that the Bible is talking about mircochips, it might not be that way. And I'm not one of those people who goes on about the devil all the time or is affraid of the future. I believe that Jesus already beat anything anyone could throw at Him when he died on the cross and rose again. This stuff freaks me out a bit, but my future and yours are in His hands and their is no safer place to be.
One last thing. This is how I keep stuff like human chipping in perspective:
We should remember that every generation thinks they might be the last one on earth. Seriously, the disciples thought they might see Jesus come back in thier own life time, 2000 years ago. And somebody at the turn of every century says
"This is it folks! The end of the world! We'll all be dead by morning!".
So far they have all been wrong.
Christians today should take Jesus' advice to his disciples; to keep one eye on the world around them while they get on with the real business at hand - living for Jesus and loving other people. Read Matthew 10 verse 16 to see what I mean. Follow the link on the main page to Biblegateway.com, it's so easy to look stuff up that way.
I'm off to pack for Boys Brigade camp :-)
Oops, I meant to say:
anybody else got something to say about human chipping and want to join the debate?
Dive in folks!
